Cactus sand shaker

Cactus shaker card - MFT - Laura Dovalo.

Hello! I’m back with a fun cactus shaker card that I made for this month’s Hits & Highlights feature at My Favorite Things.  This time the DT was challenged to use the largest frame from the A2 Rectangle Frames Die-namics with the A2 Rectangle Shaker Pouches, to create full-sized shaker cards.

I’m not a fan of shaker cards, but I must say that it was a breeze to make this one, using the above mentioned products and I finished the shaker portion in no time. I filled it with sand and mixed media mini beads. These are so light, that in order to avoid them getting everywhere (especially in the exposed sticky of the Scor-Tape that I used), I made a little hole in the sand and poured them in it. Then I attached the shaker pouch to it and cut the excess cardstock with a craft knife.

Next I prepared a whole bunch of fun watercolor backgrounds, mainly in green, for my cactus plants. I smooshed, painted and splattered Distress Inks all over the place…

When the panels were totally dry, I stamped the plants from the Sweet Succulents stamp set using Extreme Black Hybrid Ink. I diecut them with the matching dies, but wasn’t convinced with the result, so I ended up fussy cutting the cacti. I also added some light shading with Copic markers…

I stamped the sentiment on a banner from the Tag Builder Blueprints 7 Die-namics in MFT kraft colored cardstock and attached it to the middle of the shaker pouch with thin foam dots. Speaking of shaker pouches…  Today only, you can enjoy 20% off the 2 featured products, A2 Rectangle Frames Die-namics and A2 Rectangle Shaker Pouches, no code necessary.

That’s it for today, I really like this shaker card… the sound of the sand mixed with the mini beads is beautiful. Tomorrow I’ll be back with another card. Until then!
