¡Hola! Tenemos un nuevo reto semanal (WSC523) en el blog de MFT. Para inspiraros a participar, he creado dos tarjetas gráficas o tipográficas en cartulina Black Licorice, Smooth White, Red Hot y Kraft.
This week’s sketch made me think of graphic and specifically typographic design, so I grabbed all of my alphabet dies and some stamps and went to work…
Graphic (typographic) card number one
First I scaled the sketch on Photoshop and printed it to know the exact measurements of the elements. Then I cut some 1 3/8″ x 2 3/8″ (3,4cm x 6,5cm) rectangles and 1 3/8″ x 1 3/8″ (3,4cm x 3,4cm) squares out of black and white card stock.
I noticed that the letters from the Personalized Tags Die-namics were exactly 1 3/8″ tall. The M an E, placed vertically, were the perfect size. Now I just needed to come up with a nice sentiment with the word «me» in it.
I came up with «you make me». I thought of using the word «you» from the You Take the Cake Die-namics, but I didn’t want to place two words vertically on the same card. So I saved it for card number two and used the letter «U» from the Impact Alphabet Die-namics instead.
In order to make it taller, I did some partial die cutting. I also popped it up with some thin foam squares, to make it stand out. When creating graphic cards, especially typograhic cards, it’s a good idea to keep it simple. Playing with volume, color and texture is essential.
For the word «make» I used letters from the Captions Alphabet Die-namics. I completed the sentiment with a Translucent Vellum banner, die cut with the largest die from the Essential Stitched Sentiment Strips Die-namics. On it I heat embossed a partial message from the Essential Sentiments stamp set. I embellished the card with a speech bubble, from the Love Speech Bubbles Die-namics and a couple of red enamel dots.
Graphic (typographic) card number two
Since there were some left over elements, I decided to create a second card… This time I went with a Red Hot card base. The before-mentioned «you» looked too small on the top left black rectangle, so I added a scalloped edge from the Gift Tag Die-namics.
Next, I die cut the letter «R» from the Personalized Tags Die-namics several times, both in black and in white card stock. I layered them to create a shadow effect and covered the hole with a red enamel dot. To finish the message I heat embossed one of the sentiments from the All the Encouragement set on the second black rectangle. I also partially heat embossed the words «my friend» from the Smile Maker set on the vellum banner.
As in card number one, I used a small speech bubble from the Love Speech Bubbles Die-namics to add the final touch. These are not my first graphic cards (or typographic cards) for MFT. Click HERE to check them out before you leave.
I hope you join us for WSC523 at the MFT Blog. You could be the lucky winner of a $50 gift voucher to the MFT Boutique. Have a great day!
