Hellooo! As soon as I saw the sketch for this week’s challenge (WSC491) at the MFT Blog, I knew that I wanted to create a beach scene with the adorable critters from the BB Sunshine & Friendship stamp set.
Those circles could be interpreted in so many ways; as abstract shapes or as round objects like balloons or planets, but in my mind, they represented critters or things in perspective…

I started by stamping the critters and ball on an A2 panel of Copic friendly heavyweight card stock with Extreme Black Hybrid Ink. Next, I die cut the second largest circle from the A2 Stitched Circle STAX Set 1 Die-namics out of masking paper in order to create the mound of beach sand.

The following step was to cover the three stamps + beach with masking paper and ink blend the water with Blu Raspberry, Blue Breeze and Sour Apple Premium Dye ink. I splattered the panel with ink and water to give it more texture.

Once it was dry, I covered the water with the negative part of the masking paper to ink the sand with Kraft Premium Dye Ink. Besides the splatters of ink, I added some detail with Prismacolor pencils and Copic markers E55 and E53. The ink blending brush that I used was a little bit dirty, so the colors turned out muted, but I sort of like the effect. They give the scene a retro look.

The sentiment banner, cut by hand from Heavyweight Translucent Vellum, didn’t look good on top of the orangutan, so I placed it in below him. I colored the critters with the following markers, although I also used some Prismacolor pencils for the tiger’s and ball’s reflections:
- Tiger: YR27, YR68, YR65, YR61, R39, R37, R35
- Orangutan: YR27, YR68, YR65, E11, E21, R20, YR61, G07, G05, G03
- Ball: G07, G05, G03, R39, R37, R35, B05, B02, B01, YR61, B14, B12, Y17, Y15, Y13
