Christmas card with penguins for WSC521

Hi there! A week has flown by since my last blog entry and I’m back with a Christmas card (still needed a couple) for the new Weekly Sketch Challenge (WSC521) at the MFT Blog.

This week’s sketch clearly called for a winter landscape so I didn’t overthink it and just went for it.

My card features the Christmas tree and the adorable penguins from the BB Holiday Penguins stamp set, which I hadn’t had the change to use before. I started by stamping the tree with Extreme Black Hybrid Ink on an A2 panel of Copic friendly card stock. I also stamped and heat embossed one of the sentiments from the Bitty Holiday Wishes set in white. Then I masked the tree and went in with Summer Splash Premium Dye Ink and the Drifts & Hills Stencil.

I splattered the background with some diluted white acrylic paint, but it didn’t look like I wanted it to, so I drew some of the falling snow with a gel pen. Next, I went to work on the penguins, which were so fun to color. I kept the color palette simple and besides the grays (W10, W7, W5, W3, W00) and blue greens (BG18, BG15, BG13) for the scarf , I just repeated the same colors that I used for the ornaments; R29, R24, R22, YR27, YR24 and YR21.

After I was done with the coloring, I used the matching dies to die cut the penguins. Then I popped them onto my card with thin foam adhesives. They’re so cute… dancing and enjoying the cold weather. As a last touch , I also drew some falling snow on them.

I forgot to mention that I adhered my panel on a 5 5/8″ x 8 3/4″ (14,3cm x 22,2cm) top fold card base of Smooth White Card Stock. That’s about it!
