Op Art card for Day 2

Op art card in black., white and red for Day 2 of the MFT January Release Countdown.

Hello again! For Day 2 of the MFT January Release Countdown I created an Op Art card, with a bold sentiment, in black, white and red.

The concept

In case you are not familiar with the concept, Wikipedia defines it in the following way: “Op art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. Op art works are abstract, with many better known pieces created in black and white. Typically, they give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns, or of swelling or warping.”

That is totally the case with my card, which features the XL sentiment from the Love You Big Time stamp set. It vibrates so much, that it’s almost difficult to read.

The process

I started by using my MISTI to stamp the “Love You”  with Versamark Ink on a piece of Black Licorice Prestige Card Stock. Then I heat embossed it in white. After that I stamped the same sentiment, in the exact same position, with Extreme Black Hybrid Ink, on a piece of Smooth White Card Stock.

I taped the two panels together so that they wouldn’t move while I rolled them through my die cutting machine, with the Color Wave Cover-Up Die-namics. Next, I adhered the die cut pieces alternatively to create my black and white Op Art panel.

To give it an even more sixties vibe, I die cut it with the second largest die from the Stitched Mod Rectangle STAX Die-namics. I then used the largest die from the set to die cut a white panel, so that I could frame the main one.

To add a pop of color, I adhered both panels to an A2 top fold card base in Red Hot Card Stock. It also gave some much needed warmth to this love-themed card. As a last touch, I added some enamel drops in black, white and red.
