Interactive playing dogs card for MFT

Interactive playing dogs card for the May Hits & Highlights at MFT.

Hi! For today’s Hits & Highlights at the MFT blog, I made an interactive card featuring two of the cute dogs from the Best in Show stamp set.

I found THIS cool mechanism by Brit01425 on YouTube. It converts linear to circular motion and I adapted it to make the ball move back and forth, as you can see in the video clip below.

Next, I’m going to explain part of the creation of the mechanism through pictures.

The mechanism of the interactive playing dogs card

  1. I cut the disk from the Turntable Die-namics set to 1/4 of it’s original size and linked it to my 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ (14cm x 10,7cm) back panel, through a brad in the center hole.
  2. I also linked it to one end of the medium-sized bar, cut with the Stitched Oval Word Windows Die-namics.
  3. The other end of the medium-sized bar is linked to the large bar, cut with the same set of dies.
  4. I cut a 1/4″ x 1″ groove in it and used a Spin & Slide disk to link it to the pull tab from the Interactive Pull Tabs Die-namics. So that the tab wouldn’t slide out of place, I used a small circle to cap it.
  5. The other end of the large tab is linked to the card panel.
  6. I kept the pull tab in place with a sleeve made out of a strip of thin paper.

Next I cut the 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ (14cm x 10,7cm) main panel out of Summer Splash card stock, placed it on the mechanism panel and used my finger to press on top of brad number 1. Then I used that mark to die cut a hole, with a 9/16″ (1,4cm) circle die from the Blueprints 28 Die-namics set.

As you can see in the picture above, I attached the main panel to the mechanism panel (with two layers of foam tape) and glued a donut-shaped thick foam dot on top of brad number 1. To that foam dot I attached a strip of acetate, which is the one that moves the red ball that the dogs are playing with.

I used dies from the Grassy Hills Die-namics and Once Upon a Rainbow Die-namics to create the outside scene. To give the clouds a more natural look, I colored them lightly with warm gray Copic markers and used the blender marker to fade the color.

The ball looked a little bit out of place as the only red element in the card, so I borrowed one of the bows from the Builder Bears stamp set, colored it red and attached it to the Corgi’s ear. I also die-cut a tiny red heart from the LLD Bundle of Baby Clothes Die-namics set, covered it with Glossy Accents and added it to the heat embossed sentiment.
